I am also against willfully making life harder for other programmers. 
Why go through the effort of changing something for the sole reason of 
making life harder for other programmers?

Well, this seems to be the way FFmpeg works... Absolute compliance to 
one standard, and make life harder for anything else.

I don't see it as something so bad though. It shows how much the 
developers are willing to follow their principles (and standards).
