The South Dakota House of Representatives is the lower house of the South Dakota Legislature. It consists of 70 members, two from each legislative district. Two of the state's 35 legislative districts, Districts 26 and 28, are each subdivided into two single-member districts (26A/26B and 28A/28B). The South Dakota House of Representatives meets at the South Dakota State Capitol in Pierre.

District 26A primarily represents the Rosebud Reservation, while 28A represents the Standing Rock and Cheyenne River reservations. Affiliation Party

In 2022, Democrat Kameron Nelson from District 10 became the first openly gay man elected to South Dakota's state house. He was sworn in in 2023.[10]

  2. ^ a b c Jess Olson (R–34) resigned on November 13, 2023, for health reasons.[2] Incumbent legislator Becky Drury (R–32) was appointed to succeed Olson in January 2024 after moving districts.[3] Kristin Conzet (R) was then appointed in February 2024 to fill the vacancy left by Drury in the 32nd district.[4]
  3. ^ a b Herman Otten (R) declined to take office after being elected in district 6.[5] Tim Czowski (R) was appointed to the vacant seat in February 2024.[6]
  4. ^ a b Tony Venhuizen (R–13) resigned on January 29, 2025, when he was nominated as lieutenant governor.[7] Former state senator Jack Kolbeck (R) was appointed to succeed Venhuizen in February 2025.[8]
