HTML <dfn> 요소는 현재 맥락이나 문장에서 정의하고 있는 용어를 나타냅니다. <dfn>에서 가장 가까운 <p>, <dt>/<dd> 쌍, <section> 조상 요소를 용어 정의로 간주합니다.

<dfn> 요소를 보는 것 만으로는 그다지 명확하지 않은 부분이 있습니다.

다음 규칙을 따라 현재 용어가 어느건지 판별합니다.

1. <dfn> 요소가 title 특성을 가지고 있으면 ê·¸ 값을 현재 정의 중인 용어로 간주합니다. <dfn>은 여전히 텍스트 콘텐츠를 가지고 있겠지만, 완전한 용어 대신 준말(<abbr>)을 넣을 수도 있고, 다른 대체 형태일 수도 있습니다.
2. <dfn>이 다른 텍스트는 없이 하나의 자식만 가지는데, ê·¸ 자식이 title 특성을 가진<abbr>인 경우, 자식 <abbr>의 title 특성 값을 현재 용어로 간주합니다.
3. 모두 아닌 경우 <dfn>의 텍스트 콘텐츠를 현재 용어로 간주합니다. 아래의 첫 번째 예제에서 확인할 수 있습니다.

참고: <dfn> 요소가 title 특성을 가진 경우, ê·¸ 값은 정의 중인 용어여야 하며 다른 텍스트는 들어가선 안됩니다.

<dfn> 요소에 id 특성을 지정하면 <a> 요소로 <dfn>을 가리킬 수 있습니다. 사용자가 용어 뜻을 잘 모를 경우, 링크를 클릭해 빠르게 정의를 확인할 수 있습니다. 따라서 링크 콘텐츠는 용어의 사용 예시 등을 담고 있어야 합니다.
