A real live solo viola is processed using Max/MSP and mixed in real-time with Synful string sounds. The program Max and later Max/MSP was first conceived by Miller Puckette in 1984 at IRCAM to support the work of composer Philippe Manoury. Manoury has been a Synful Orchestra user since 2006. Puckette is also the creator of Pure Data (PD).

Horn section. One of the most famous and virtuosic passages in the orchestral literature. 8 horns are used. No Delay for Expression (the new horn doesn't use DFE). The expression control (cc11) is set once at the beginning for overall level - LOUD! Then just velocity and note-on, note-off are used. This shows the stunning results that can be achieved with little effort using Synful's new horn.

Percussive Strings. Finally a funk groove for stings. This uses only Synful Orchestra string sounds. There is no percussion or other libraries. What sounds like percussion is plucked strings that have been modified using Synful Orchestra Controls -- harmonic parity, harmonic tilt, and release time. No Delay for Expression was used.

I’ve used Synful Orchestra in my composition Partita I (created at IRCAM, Paris) and I’ve been extremely satisfied with the resulting sounds. I plan to use it again in my forthcoming composition for contrabass and electronics. This program fills a void that has constrained all electronic music: the possible of constructing real instrumental phrases. I think, in addition to its commercial use, this program also has a great future in serious contemporary music.

I find your product delivers a more realistic sound, and definitely a more natural interface, than anything else I've tried. This is particularly true for woodwinds and brass, but everything you have is great. Synful's ingenious combination of high-quality samples within a synthesizer interface is unparalleled. Instead of switching sample banks all the time, the software intuits the right samples based on your playing style. I have ~20 years of Synful patches that I've been using and would bummed if things went obsolete!

Warner Bros. just handed me an assignment where I needed to replace a classical score on a new cartoon: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Holst’s Planets, Handel’s Watermusic and Bach’s Air on G. I walked out of that meeting (knowing there is not the budget for an orchestra) thinking one thing : I MUST GET SYNFUL!!!.

You might perhaps appreciate to know that your solo violin moved me to tears. It was sometimes so intense that I was obliged to take a break because I simply couldn’t continue my work peacefully…
