FLINT, MI -- The law enforcement national organization BrotHERs Before Others is donating hundreds of cases of water and one-gallon jugs to Flint police to help them during the water crisis.
Officers from the Detroit Police Department -- both retired and active -- along with their family members will be delivering more than 330 cases of 24 packs of 16 ounce water bottles and about 361 one-gallon jugs of water to the Flint Police Department. The donation will be delivered on Saturday, March 5.
Detroit police officer Daniel Emery serves on the Board of Trustees for BrotHERs Before Others. Emery said the organization held a donation drive with members to raise money to buy the water.
"Our goal was to raise about $1,000," Emery said. "We did that in about four hours. We actually raised $1,000 for Flint and $1,000 for the officer that was killed in Virginia."
Emery said that's what BrotHERs Before Others does -- help injured and fallen officers around the country.
Flint Police Capt. Leigh Golden said the department is grateful for the donation.
"The Flint Police Department is very appreciative of this donations," Golden said. "The donated water helps to ensure that our personnel can stay hydrated with safe drinking water during the long shifts that we work."
BrotHERs Before Others has been a registered non-profit for about a year, Emery said. The main office is in New Jersey, with the majority of the members are from there, New York and Pennsylvania. Emery said the organization also has members all over the nation.
