. Origin: A female nude mouse with good nursing ability and her litter mate obtained during the development of a DDD/1-nu/+ congenic strain, with the nude gene originating from a BALB/c-nu strain (

). Congenic strains carrying beige (

), X-linked immune deficiency (

xid

) and both these have also been developed (

Ishigaki et al, 1996

).
