MGI - Inbred Strains: EL

Inbred Strains of Mice: EL

EL

Inbr (Yok) 84. Albino.

c.

Origin K.Imaizumi,

El

(epilepsy) mutation in non-inbred albino mice in 1954.

Characteristics

Epilepsy-like behaviour which can be induced by Megamide (

Nakano et al, 1996

). Phenobarbital suppresses the seizures dose-dependently, but zonisamide is ineffective (

Nagatomo et al, 1996a

). Seizure susceptibility may be due to a reduced number of nitric oxide-producing cells in the hippocampal area (

Nagatomo et al, 1996b

) Maint. by Yok.
