Trump spokesperson Hope Hicks says the campaign will announce the transition team in the upcoming weeks
Washington CNN —
Donald Trump, days after he emerged as the presumptive Republican nominee, has reportedly tasked his son-in-law to work with his campaign and help set up a transition team should he win the White House.
Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump’s husband, will help craft the team, the latest in his efforts to aide his father-in-law’s presidential bid, The New York Times reported Friday.
When asked about the Times report, Trump spokesperson Hope Hicks told CNN that the campaign would announce the transition team in the upcoming weeks.
Kushner, who is also the owner of the New York Observer, will work directly with Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and senior adviser Paul Manafort on the transition team, according to the Times.
Kushner, like many members of the Trump family, has taken an active role in the campaign. He contributed to Trump’s written speech delivered to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference in March and brokered meetings between Trump and media magnate Rupert Murdoch.
Transition teams are typically meant to guide a presidential candidate from the campaign trail to the White House, taking care of the myriad logistical and political considerations that come with the move. Should Trump win, this team will be tasked with bringing Trump from his gilded Manhattan home to Pennsylvania Avenue.
President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden officially announced their team shortly after their victory in November 2008. The team included current Hillary Clinton campaign chair John Podesta as well as current Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett and a former interim Obama chief of staff, Pete Rouse.
In 2012, Mitt Romney’s transition team began their work in June, five months ahead of an election that kept Obama in the White House.
