Institutional Accreditation - Institutional Accreditation

The Institutional Accreditation website provides information about the Middle States accreditation standards and Carnegie Mellon University’s (CMU) processes and reaccreditation reports. This site also provides information about state compliance and distance education matters (NC-SARA).

CMU is accredited through a voluntary, peer-review process coordinated by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The aim of the accreditation process is to ensure current and future students and the public that the university provides a high quality educational experience in alignment with our institutional mission.

CMU's next reaccreditation cycle is underway, which launched in early 2025 with the self-study process and is anticipated to conclude with a peer team review visit in fall 2026 and a formal reaccreditation determination in spring 2027. Prior to this, CMU’s most recent comprehensive review for reaccreditation was carried out in the 2017-2018 academic year, and the MSCHE issued its decision in June 2018.

CMU’s Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO)

The Associate Vice President for Global Strategic Initiatives and Institutional Accreditation serves as the Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), charged by the CMU president as the primary contact between MSCHE and the institution, and as an internal reference for institutional accreditation matters.
