The RAF Jerkin System comprised a pressure vest used with a P/Q mask and anti-G suit. Several variations included unsleeved, sleeved and integrated garments proven for short term protection to 18 km.

Status: operational 1955.

Mk-1 Taylor and M.L. clam shell pressure helmets were used with the sleeved variant for short term protection to 30 km.

A helmet and a full trunk bladder extending down over the upper thighs - the RAF Jerkin - permitted higher breathing pressures for protection in higher altitudes, but for short periods. It was found that for exposures beyond a few minutes it was essential to add bladders to the legs and then to the arms, which brought on restriction of mobility.
