overview   research   trivia   publications

I am graduate student in the CS division of UC Berkeley, working with Professor Eric Brewer.  I've spent most of my graduate student career working on distributed systems in one form or another.  I am fascinated by extremes, and enjoy algorithms and techniques that push a system to its maximum potential.
If you're looking for my publications, they are on a seperate page.

My research interests include the following:

My dissertation research explores programming environments & tools for network-centric high performance computing.  In particular, I am investigating the following. This work is starting to take on a life of its own, so you can read more about it on the Capriccio Project home page.

Durring my tenure at Berkeley, I've been involved with the following research projects:

I am the proud father of a 2-year-old human and a 4-year-old canine.  Hence, I spend the majority of my non-computer hours roughhousing, playing chase, combatting entropy and negotiating inevitable sibling rivalries.  (Pretzels are a very hot commodity these days.)

I enjoy hiking and mountain biking, and spend a lot of time in Tilden Park when the weather is good.  Berkeley is also home to a number of excellent dog and kid parks, which make for a nice diversion when time or energy are running low.

To help pay the bills, I also occasionally take on part-time consulting jobs doing UNIX security work, performance tuning and analysis, web application design and setup, and general UNIX and network administration.  Past clients include Maxtor Corpoation, Lyris Technologies and the American Society of Civil Engineers.  Check out my resume, in either PDF or postscript, if you are looking for some help.
