This is an important article, written by Bentley, at a very oppressive time
in our history. It was during the McCarthyism era, when many celebrities,
especially homosexuals, were hoping just to not be noticed. Or, in Bentley's
case to try to whitewash her lesbian image. She was still trying to make a
living as a performer. Critics in later years regard this article as mostly
fabrication, and I give her a lot of slack, and do not criticize her...ie, I will
not accuse her of turning her back on the lesbian culture. Those were terrible
times and hundreds in Hollywood were blacklisted.
