ActiveX doersn't work on Mac or Linux.
Tkinter doesn't work in a browser(Grail excluded!)

Thus for something that works in a browser on all platforms 
you have to go down the Java route. Either native Java or 
one of the many Language-X to JVM translators(where X is one of
Tcl, Smalltalk, Python)
