I jumped the gun here. warnings doesn't use encodings or codecs. Something else imports that. Another obnoxious thing is that site.py imports distutils just for the benefit of people running from a build directory. It would be nice to find a solution for the build directory that didn't not require a bunch of distutils package imports. Jeremy
