Comments are in the patch, so I won't repeat them here, but I would
appreciate a few reviews on the code.  Particularly, my addition of a new
format to PyArg_ParseTuple and the resulting extra string copy may raise a
few eye-brows.

I've even managed to include the new test file and its output in the patch,
so it will hopefully apply cleanly and run a full test if you want to try
it.
