Each PEP should in its introduction briefly mention the other as an alternative. I don't generally recommend that alternative proposals develop separate PEPs, but in this case the potential impact on Python is so large that I think it's the only way to proceed that doesn't give one group an unfair advantage over the other. I haven't had the time to read either proposal yet, so I can't comment on their (in)compatibility, but I would surmise that at most one can be accepted -- with the emphasis on *at most* (possibly neither is ready for prime time), and with the understanding that each proposal may be able to borrow ideas or code from the other anyway. --Guido van Rossum (home page: http://www.pythonlabs.com/~guido/)
