Boy bands have been around since the mid-1950s. Groups like the Ink Spots and Temptations introduced rhythmically catchy singing and choreographed movements. They weren’t called boy bands back then. They were called “hep harmony singing groups.”
The modern boy band business is the brainchild of Lou Pearlman, a former transportation tycoon. The idea of promoting boy bands came to him after chartering a plane to baby-faced boy band New Kids on the Block.
