California has won the double-testing waiver it coveted from the U.S. Department of Education, Education Week‘s Michele McNeil reports.
She’s got the emerging details for you over at the Politics K-12 blog . But suffice to say, it looks like the Golden State has avoided coughing up a chunk of its federal Title I dollars in fines for flouting U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan’s wishes.
California had gotten itself into a gnarly standoff with Duncan , as you may recall, over its plan to ditch nearly all its current tests for a year in favor of the field tests, which won’t produce much data the state can use for accountability purposes. Then it revised its plan a bit in a bid to get Duncan’s approval.
