In April, little Tamera was born at Capital Health System in Trenton, 15 weeks too soon. She weighed 325 grams -- less than a can of soda -- and measured fewer than 11 inches long, about half the length of a full-term newborn.
She is believed to be one of the smallest babies ever to be born and survive throughout the state of New Jersey, hospital officials said Thursday.
Tomorrow, Tamera and her mother, Andrea Haws of Trenton, will head home with a cheerful send-off from hospital staff.

"She now weighs four pounds and five ounces," said Stephen Moffitt, MD, Tamera's board certified neonatologist and pediatrician in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Capital Health. "All indications point toward an excellent prognosis for Tamera to develop on a normal schedule."
Since her birth on April 25, Tamera has been cared for at Capital Health, which has the only Level III NICU in Mercer County. Located on the Mercer campus of CHS, the NICU works with area obstetricians to minimize complications for high-risk mothers.
